Opal Coast Trip & In School Pétanque

22 Jul 25

The MFL department had a very busy end of the summer term!

We organised 3 day trips to the Opal Coast for the Y7 pupils.

Au programme: visit of the Boulangerie d'Escoeuilles, where Bruno the baker explained his passion for traditionally made bread and the pupils had a go at rolling the dough and ate up their freshly made "pain au chocolat". Then the discovery of the snail farm where David gave a detailed description of his two activities: breeding and cooking snails! This was of course followed by a tasting session where pupils had the opportunity to sample the various recipes: from shallots and raspberry vinegar to goat cheese and paprika, and of course the traditional garlic butter. Finally, a town trail to discover the old town of Boulogne-sur- Mer and a bit of free time to sample the local ice-cream and patisseries, as well as a chance to buy some souvenirs. All in all, it was a valuable experience which put in perspective and made real some of the linguistic and cultural teaching of the Y7 curriculum.

Back in school, a few KS3 classes were introduced to the technicalities of the game of pétanque and enjoyed trying their hand at the game all whilst soaking in the sun. Healthy competition was had with some taking the game more seriously than others!
