What is Sociology?

Sociology is the study of human societies, their interactions and the processes that preserve and change them. For example, how has legislation impacted on society? How has the Divorce Reform Act 1969 impacted on the way we view family now?

  1. Before World War II, baby boys wore pink and girls wore blue. Pink was considered a strong colour while blue was considered delicate and dainty
  2. There is a glass escalator for men. Unlike the glass ceiling for women that prevents them from rising to positions of power, there is a glass escalator for men. This is the rapid promotion of men over women regardless of qualifications in typically female-dominated occupations.
  3. Facebook is the biggest social media site in the world and it is the number one cause for divorce in the USA!
