A Level Music

A level music is a popular option at Chatham and Clarendon, and numbers are amongst the highest in Kent for the subject - between 10 and 20 in each year group.

We follow the Edexcel syllabus; the course is split into three components in each year as follows:

  • Unit 1 - Performance
  • Unit 2 - Composition
  • Unit 3 - Understanding and Listening to Music - analysis and music history through listening
  • Unit 4 - Extended Performance
  • Unit 5 - Composition and or Technical Study
  • Unit 6 - Understanding and Listening to Music - analysis and music history through listening

Students are also encouraged to join the musical ensembles that take place at the school, such as choir and the bands, and perhaps also the musical productions. This enables their musical life at the school to be as active as possible which then feeds back into their musical understanding within the A level course.
