Japanese Students deliver workshops to KS3 students

05 Mar 26

On Wednesday 4th March, we welcomed a group of Japanese students to the lower school site. They are just embarking on their teacher training course in Japan and are currently spending 4 weeks in the UK (Chaucer College, Canterbury) and finding out what it is like to study and teach here.

They spent a day at a Canterbury primary school last week and by contrast, today they got to observe what life at secondary school is like. They first went on a tour of the school and were expertly shown around by Aleyna and Belinay, 2 of our 6th form guides. They then were collected by volunteer KS3 pupils to go and observe a variety of lessons. What always strikes them most is the expectation placed on students to be involved and participate.

To thank us for the opportunity to be part of our community for the day, they offered workshops to some KS3 classes. Pupils were fortunate to be able to experience a Japanese calligraphy activity, origami as well as learn some basic Japanese language.

It was clear that all involved benefited from this experience and we look forward to doing it all over again next year!
