Year 12 Students Shine in the Intermediate Biology Olympiad
We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of our Year 12 Biology students in this year's Intermediate Biology Olympiad, held on Wednesday 10th June 2026.
Eighteen Year 12 Biology students represented the school, completing two challenging 35-minute online multiple-choice examinations. Their hard work and dedication were rewarded with an impressive set of results: six students achieved Commended awards, one student received a Highly Commended award, two students were awarded Bronze, and three students achieved Silver, placing them among the top 10% of more than 16,000 entrants.
Congratulations to our medal winners:
- Silver: Joseph Hobley, Riley Evans and Obinna Uliem
- Bronze: Louisa O'Neill and Joshua Hawkins
The Intermediate Biology Olympiad is a challenging competition that encourages students to apply their biological knowledge to unfamiliar problems, testing both their scientific understanding and analytical thinking. Questions are based on GCSE and first-year A Level content, alongside problems that require students to think critically and apply their knowledge in new contexts. This year, more than 16,000 students from schools across the UK and around the world took part.
Congratulations also to the six students who achieved Commended awards and our Highly Commended student. Every participant should be proud of taking on such a demanding competition, and we commend all 18 students for their enthusiasm, resilience and commitment. Their success is a testament to the hard work they have invested throughout the year.
