Sixth Form trip to see Fences by August Wilson

15 Oct 26

53 students from our sixth form headed to Hammersmith to see a production of FENCES by August Wilson on Wednesday.

The trip gave Theatre Studies, Government and Politics and HOUSELIGHTS members a chance to see Wilson's seminal play which follows 53-year-old Troy Maxson, a bitter former baseball player working as a garbage collector in 1950s Pittsburgh, as his unfulfilled dreams, racial grievances, and strained family relationships create emotional and literal barriers between him and his loved ones.

Mr Smith said "It was a long day, and a late finish, but our students were impeccable. It's always a pleasure to run trips like this as the students make us so proud."

"As a piece of social realism, and running for nearly 3 hours, it was a chance for our students to see something a little bit more challenging. The production itself was fantastic with an incredibly strong cast and some lovely set design. It will no doubt be a source of inspiration for our drama students and provide a number of areas for debate in Government and Politics."

"I want to thank Mrs Cackett, Ms Emes and Mr Wood for supporting on this trip as well as the staff behind the scenes like Ms Reynolds and Mrs Douglas who help make things happen."

The next theatre visit will take place in March as KS4 and KS5 students set off to see Little Voice at the Marlowe Theatre.
