We're off to see the Wizard....

19 Feb 24

This year, the School Production Team took on the challenge of putting on the RSC version of The Wizard of Oz, written by Frank Baum with lyrics and music by Harold Arlen, E.Y. Harburg and Herbert Stothart. The cast worked together superbly to bring the odd assortment of characters to life, supported by the talented students in the Tech Team, the Backstage Crew and the Pit Band.

The Cast was led by Carys Weedon in the lead role of Dorothy, captivating the audience with her vocal skills and acting talents. The other leads, Franklin Joyner, George Hall and Matthew Gough complimented each other effortlessly and embodied the different characteristics and physical quirks of Scarecrow, Tinman and Lion. Libby Field as Glinda, Maddy Sales as The Wicked Witch of the West, Sam Kirby as the Emerald City Guard and Cody Strong as The Wizard of Oz all gave fantastic performances and brought energy to the stage.

As always, a musical is nothing without the ensemble and it was lovely to see so many returning members of our production family as well as many new Year 7s joining for, hopefully, the first of many productions to come.  Special mention must go to Evie-Mae Hulls as she took on the role of Toto Puppeteer. This was no mean feat but through her skill and dedication, she created a personality for Toto who plays a huge part in the story. With the addition of three smoke machines, two industrial size fans, a snow machine and a hydraulic lift this production was one to remember!

Congratulations to all who took part, all who supported us and all who came to watch The Wizard of Oz.
