Sixth Form Dress Code

The Sixth Form Dress Code is simple enough to follow.  However, should any student be unsure of whether what they intend to wear follows the rules, they may contact us.
 
Suit
• Black/dark grey plain or non-patterned trousers (NOT DENIM, LEATHER or jeans-style cut) – no shorts;
• White shirt, tucked in, with Sixth Form tie and top button done up properly.  Ties such as House colours, County colours etc, can only be worn if agreed by the Sixth Form leadership beforehand.
• A suit or dark blazer (compulsory).
• Plain, smart black or dark brown shoes – not trainers or scruffy footwear.
 
Other Dress Code
• Either Black/dark grey plain, non-patterned trousers (NOT DENIM, LEATHER or jeans-style cut) or plain skirt of moderate length in same colours – no shorts, leggings or cropped trousers.  Shirt/blouse that must be deemed to be smart by Sixth Form leadership (in line with nationally accepted office dress codes, the top button(s) of this garment may be open, but must not challenge taste or decency!).  The garment must have a collar.
• SEE-THROUGH GARMENTS ARE NOT TO BE WORN
• Plain, smart black or dark brown shoes – not trainers or scruffy footwear.  Boots and other footwear not normally worn with smart clothes must be cleared by Sixth Form leadership before being worn.
• Plain pullover in grey, dark green or black (V or crew neck); plain grey, dark green or black cardigan if deemed to be smart by Sixth Form leadership.
• Hijabs are acceptable, in any colour
• Dark grey or black smart dress can be worn as alternative to skirt/shirt/blouse
 
Hair
• As in the rest of the school, hair must be of a natural colour. Should a student come into school with a hair colour that is not deemed acceptable, they will be asked to discuss the matter with a member of the sixth form team, who may allow the student to take up to a week to remedy the problem.
 
• If a student is unsure of whether a particular hairstyle is acceptable, they should ask a member of the team prior to taking any steps to change things.
 
As the Sixth Form dress code is intended to be smart, wearing of suits is encouraged for female students too.  If a smart business suit is being worn, the rule on shirts/blouses requiring a collar will not apply.
 
Students who are deemed to be scruffy will be told how they are to improve their appearance.
 
Jewellery guidelines for all students:
• Not more than one stud piercing is allowed in each ear.  NO ear stretchers.
• Not more than one ring (which must be deemed acceptable by Head or Assistant Head(s) of 6th Form.
• FACIAL OR BODY PIERCINGS ARE NOT TO BE WORN.
• Only one small necklace that is unlikely to become caught is permissible.
• No bracelets (for Health and Safety reasons).
• Exceptions may be made to the above rules if a student can show that there are religious or medical reasons for such attire.
 
Students in the 6th Form are expected to set an example to students in all year groups.  Prefects in particular are expected to help to uphold uniform and dress code rules across the schools.
 
In line with sanctions that would be found in countless workplaces, should a Sixth Former not try and keep his/her appearance smart and in line with the dress code, then it shall become a matter for the Sixth Form leaders to deal with. Students may be sent home to rectify their dress. Items of incorrect apparel may be confiscated and returned at a later date.
 
All teachers and Senior Prefects are asked to ensure that students are in correct attire, and should refer any obstructive Year 12s or 13s to the Sixth Form Leadership team.
