Computer Science trip to New York 2018

21st February 2018

Staying central to Manhattan, our trip took us to Times Square, and then on our first morning a guided 4-hour bus tour of New York, taking in the sights of the Brooklyn Bridge, Grand Central Station, Greenwich Village, Harlem, Brooklyn, Queens, Little Italy, China Town, Central Park and the Financial District. We also visited and paid our respects at the Ground Zero memorial, toured Madison Square Gardens, and the observatories of the Top of the Rock, the Empire State Building and the One World Observatory. We climbed on board the 'Spirit of New York' for a Dinner Disco Cruise to the Statue of Liberty and past the Manhattan skyline by night. Finally our stay was complete with seeing the unbelievable 'Wicked' musical on Broadway.

Dinner typically was quite an event with delicious set menus at the Hard Rock Cafe, Buppa Di Beppo, Bubba Gumps and the amazing Ellen’s Stardust Diner (which is more like a party where the up and coming stars of Broadway sing, as well as serve in order to get their talents noticed!!) Together with our visit to Apple to mingle with the experts, our trips aim was delivered to see how technology could change a landscape, and the impact that computer science has had on a place such as New York, which was evident in all our planned excursions.

All in all, I'm sure our students would agree this was a 'trip of a lifetime'.
