Maths in Motion Centre of Excellence

13th October 2015

Chatham & Clarendon Grammar School has been awarded a Challenge Centre of Excellence status for the Jaguar cars sponsored Maths in Motion competition.

The competition has the stated aim of ‘encouraging young people to consider taking up careers in engineering and mathematics’ and the organisers in awarding this status have recognised that many pupils from the school have achieved those aims and much more.

In a letter from the Challenge organiser Brian Richardson, there was high praise for the work of Dr. John Tebbutt and a recognition that ’no school in the world has enjoyed the successes’ that CCGS has achieved since the competitions inception.

As part of Challenge Centre of Excellence, the school will act as a hub and training centre to train teachers from other schools and run local events. Over 1 million children have taken part in the challenge which involves using maths skills to set up virtual cars which race on the Grand Prix circuits.
